What is Brand Identity Studio for?
A brand identity project mixes strategy (brief, positioning, platform), design (territory, palette, typography, logo) and management (deadlines, approvals, applications, files to deliver). Brand Identity Studio brings it all together, project by project.
You get a score on 6 axes, a contrast analysis of your palette with readable variants of the same hue, the colours you share with competitors, a mission schedule comparing your progress with the time elapsed, budget and length benchmarks by industry and mission type, prioritised recommendations, generators, ready-to-send brand guidelines and a client report with their branding.
With the other Yok-Kod tools
Brand Identity Studio runs the identity project. To go further on one part:
- Naming Studio invents and scores names and checks domain names (section 6 only keeps the shortlisted candidates);
- Freelance Proposal Generator writes the commercial proposal for the project;
- Video Storyboard prepares a video presenting the new identity;
- Meta Tag Studio reuses the name, tagline and theme colour for the website's tags and social sharing.

The steps, one by one
Discover the tool with the demo
🎁 Demo button (at the top): every section fills in with a fictitious skincare brand, with dates aligned with today. Browse the tabs, then clear the demo (Delete button) to start your project.
Frame the mission
Section 1: client, industry and mission type (full identity, refresh, naming, logo, guidelines, audit). These two choices adjust the budget and length benchmarks and the list of expected sections. Enter the budget, start date and delivery date.
Set the strategy
Sections 2 to 7: brief, positioning (promise, mission, vision, values, purpose), up to 3 personas with their current and target perception, competitors with their visual codes, the shortlisted names and the brand platform (essence, tagline, tone, personality, what the brand is not).
Build the visual identity
Section 8: visual territory and position on 6 axes. Section 9: the palette, one colour per line (name | #RRGGBB | use); write “text” or “background” in the use so the tool checks readability.
Section 10: typefaces and type scale. Sections 11 to 13: logo rules, graphic system, imagery.
Follow delivery
Section 14: applications and their status (to-do, in-progress, delivered, n/a). Section 15: guideline chapters and do / don't rules. Section 16: files delivered.
Section 17: current stage, progress and client feedback. Section 18: the client's name, logo and colour for the 📋 report.
Contrasts and compliant variants
The 🌈 Palette tab calculates each colour's contrast using the WCAG 2 method (relative luminance):
- colours readable as text: a colour is readable if it reaches 4.5:1 on at least one other palette colour;
- text colours: if a colour's use mentions text, headings or captions, the tool tests it on the main background (the colour whose use mentions background, otherwise the lightest) and alerts below 4.5:1;
- compliant variant: for a colour that is too light or too dark, the tool looks for the closest shade of the same hue that passes the threshold and gives you its code to copy;
- all pairs: every combination of two colours with its ratio and possible use (body text, large text or decoration).
Colours shared with competitors
In section 5, describe each competitor's visual codes with colour words (“pastel green”, “black and gold”, “navy blue”…). The tool sorts your strong colours (primary and secondary) by hue family and flags those a competitor already uses. When it is your signature colour (the first strong primary), the alert is stronger: play with shade, saturation, an unexpected pairing or a rarer use.
The 🎨 Territory tab also compares the palette with your axes: the share of warm hues with the “cool ↔ warm” axis, the number of colours with the “minimal ↔ rich” axis.
The mission schedule
With the start and delivery dates, the tool splits the mission into stages (discovery 10%, strategy up to 25%, design up to 60%, approval up to 85%, delivery) and shows the stage expected today. If the actual stage (section 17) is one stage or more behind, an alert appears.
The pace compares the progress entered with the share of time elapsed: 1 means “on schedule”, 0.8 “slightly late”. The share of applications delivered is judged the same way, against the time elapsed.
The generators
- Neutrals (section 9): an ink, a text grey and a light background slightly tinted with your main colour; the grey is adjusted to stay readable on the light background.
- Type scale (section 10): from H1 to caption, based on 16 px body text and a ratio of your choice (1.2 to 1.5), with weights and line heights.
- Applications (section 14): the usual supports for the mission type and industry (packaging for food or beauty, interface for tech, signage for a shop…), without duplicating your list.
- Files delivered (section 16): logo, favicon, palette, typefaces, guidelines, templates, with their format and rights.
- Do / don't rules (section 15): derived from your typefaces, your logo and your palette's contrasts.
The 6-axis score
Each axis is rated out of 100 from several criteria. A criterion without data is ignored, and an axis with no data shows “n/a” (not rated): it does not count in the overall score, which is the average of the rated axes.
| Axis | What is looked at |
|---|---|
| Strategic clarity | Promise, mission, vision, values, purpose, essence, tagline, tone of voice, personality, what the brand is not, brief |
| Visual coherence | Valid colour codes, neutrals, number of colours within the industry benchmark, rationale, typefaces and scale, territory, fit between palette and axes |
| Differentiation | Competitor analysis (positioning, codes, strengths, weaknesses), promise, anti-references, colours shared with competitors |
| Completeness | Sections filled among those expected for the mission type |
| Technical | Logo rules, colours readable as text, unreadable text colours, fallback fonts and weights, body text size and smallest size |
| Delivery | Applications delivered against the time elapsed, files and archive, guideline chapters ready, mission pace |
The calculated formulas
- Budget per working day = budget ÷ Monday-to-Friday days between start and delivery
- Mission pace = progress ÷ share of time elapsed
- Applications delivered = delivered ÷ applicable × 100 (“n/a” supports are excluded)
- Colours readable as text = colours reaching 4.5:1 on another palette colour ÷ colours
- Guidelines ready = ticked chapters that already have content ÷ ticked chapters
- Contrast = (lighter luminance + 0.05) ÷ (darker luminance + 0.05)
The brand guidelines
The Brand guidelines export builds a ready-to-send HTML document, printable to PDF: a cover in the brand's colours, contents, then one chapter per box ticked in section 15 (strategy, logo, colours with HEX, RGB and CMYK, readable pairings, typefaces and scale, graphic system, imagery, tone of voice, applications, do / don't rules, files). A ticked but empty chapter does not appear: the 📖 Guidelines tab shows what is missing.
The client report
The report covers the score, progress and delivery date, strategy and platform, naming, visual identity (logo, swatches, typefaces), applications, files delivered, recommendations, your conclusion and next steps, and optional appendices (contrasts, scale, rules, competitors). It carries the client's name, logo and colour; with Pro, no mention of Yok-Kod (the discovery version adds a “Discovery version · Made with Yok-Kod” watermark). The AI (Pro) can write the introduction, conclusion and next steps.
AI (optional, Pro)
With your own key (Agnes, OpenAI, Claude, Mistral, Groq, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter…), the ✨ AI tab offers: identity audit, brand platform, visual territory, 3 palettes with contrasts, type pairings, name ideas, guidelines outline and report review. The “✍️ Suggest the platform with AI” button fills section 7, and “✍️ Write… with AI” prepares the report texts.
Exports
The report, brand guidelines and ZIP can be exported in the discovery version too, with a “Discovery version · Made with Yok-Kod · yok-kod.com” line at the end of the document (and at the bottom of each printed page); Pro removes it. Data and integration exports (.ase, CSS, design tokens, Notion, Airtable, CSV, JSON) are for Pro members, and the discovery ZIP does not contain them.
| Export | What for |
|---|---|
| Report as PDF, HTML, Markdown | Send it to the client |
| Brand guidelines (HTML) | The brand's reference document, to print to PDF or share as is |
| .ase swatches | Import the palette, grouped (primary, secondary, neutrals), into design software that supports Adobe Swatch Exchange |
| CSS variables | Colours, font stacks and type scale (in rem) ready to paste into a website, with .text-h1… classes |
| Design tokens | Colours, fonts and typography in the W3C community group JSON format, for token tools and component libraries |
| Notion, Airtable | Applications, guideline chapters and actions to tick, or a tracking table |
| Full CSV, JSON, ZIP | All the data (including RGB and CMYK for each colour and every contrast pair), the project backup, or everything in one |
Where is my data?
Your projects are saved in your browser (local storage), on the computer you are using. Nothing is kept on our servers: calculations are done on the fly and then forgotten. Remember to export each project regularly as JSON (Pro) to back it up or use it on another computer. The 🕐 History button keeps the latest versions.

Common problems
- A score axis shows “n/a”.
- It is not rated yet for lack of data. For example, the Differentiation axis needs at least one competitor (section 5); the Delivery axis needs applications, files, guideline rules or progress with dates.
- A colour is marked “invalid”.
- The code must be in
#RRGGBB(or#RGB) format, in the second column:name | #C9A961 | use. - No readability alert although my text is light grey.
- The tool spots text colours from their use: write “text”, “headings” or “captions” in the third column, and “background” for the main background colour.
- No shared colour is detected.
- Competitors' visual codes must contain colour words (“navy blue”, “gold”…), and your palette strong colours: blacks, whites, greys and beiges are not compared.
- The typeface preview does not look like the chosen typeface.
- The typeface is not installed on your device: the fallback font is shown. Install it, or check the exact spelling of its name.
- The expected stage does not show.
- You need a start date and a delivery date (section 1), the second after the first.
- The AI says “invalid key”.
- Check that the chosen provider matches your key, then test it again. Free keys are limited to a few requests per minute.
- I can no longer find my project.
- Check that you are using the same computer, the same browser and the same account.
